| BT's Flexible & Mobility Solutions |
BT’s Flexible Working & Mobility Solutions Local government nationwide is focused on providing the best amenities and delivering best value services to their citizens. At the same time, councils face the ongoing challenges of managing their services with scarcer resources; having to address changing working practices to enable multi-agency working and driving employee retention by making it easier for them to do their jobs efficiently and effectively. BT has a number of flexible working and mobility solutions available to local authorities which will enable them to address these challenges:
BT’s Enabling Your Workforce Proposition BT’s Enabling Your Workforce proposition offers local authorities a selection of both flexible working solutions i.e. solutions that provide employees with the ability to work anywhere as though they are in the office and mobile working solutions i.e. solutions that provide the ability for authorities to deliver more services in the field will less need for employees to go back to the office. The benefit of our proposition is that authorities can choose how they want to work with us, from engaging with us to help them develop a strategic change approach to implementing Flexible and Mobile Working, through to implementing discrete solutions which address specific issues. BT Urban Wireless BT Urban Wireless is BT’s Wireless Broadband (Wi-Fi) solution which wirelessly enables a whole city. Wi-Fi has the potential to revolutionise the way councils manage their cities, creating greater efficiency and transforming services to change the way people live and work within the community. BT’s Wi-Fi solution, BT Urban Wireless, is a secure, reliable, fully managed wireless network service that is designed to provide convenient, broadband speed access to back office systems, applications and information from virtually any corner of a community. The enabling infrastructure is largely in place, thus minimising the need for disruption during network rollout. To create a BT Urban Wireless network, we can use street furniture, typically lamp posts, to which we attach our mini-transmitters. They, in turn, are connected to existing fibre cable runs back to local BT telephone exchanges. BT Wireless Cities In addition to our Urban Wireless offering, BT demonstrated its commitment to the rollout of Wi-Fi by announcing agreements, with six cities to become pioneers as part of our plans to create a first phase of 12 Wireless Cities across the UK. Rather than simply placing hotspots in locations throughout the city, BT is working closely with these local authorities to create a tailored wireless network with appropriate applications to ensure residents, council workers and local businesses alike benefit from the technology. In this way, residents will be the first to benefit from huge secure wireless networks, giving them access to a variety of information and services. Wireless broadband offers local authorities the opportunity to radically transform public service delivery in many ways. Wi-Fi can enable a mobile, multi-tasked local authority workforce to ensure real productivity gains, as well as reduce infrastructure costs and ongoing operational costs. If council workers are able to link on to the council’s network from the street, it enables them to access information and resolve problems immediately, thus enabling local government activities to be more effective and less costly.
