| Project Nomad Launched Nationwide |
 Welcome to the Project Nomad Launch Event dedicated page. Here you will be able to access any of the presentations used at our launch event on 10 February 2005, at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London.
The Project Nomad Team and over 200 delegates from local authorities nationwide enjoyed a full day of activities including key note speeches from Chris Haynes, Senior Advisor to the ODPM's e-Government Team, Poonam Sharma, Strategic Advisor to the IDeA and Project Nomad Director, Ian Laughton.
An introductory film was shown to delegates during the first plenary session to highlight the progress of three of the Nomad Live Projects:

| Project Nomad delegates arrive |
 Between 09.30 and 10.30 on Thursday 10 February 2005 over 200 delegates arrived at the Business Design Centre, in Islington, London and received the introductory packs including the 'Beginners Guide' - an introduction to mobile working, explaining the cost and efficiency benefits of initiating mobile working within local authorities.

Also in the packs was a colour supplement featuring Project Nomad that was published in the February edition of Government Technology Magazine and gives a detailed overview of the Project Nomad Products available and the Live Projects. Delegates also received a 'neck-tie' set of cards to help them navigate the venue, remind them of the days agenda and the workshops available for attendance.

| Introducing Project Nomad |
 At 10:30 the launch event delegates were ushered into the auditorium to be officially welcomed to the event by Project Nomad Director, Ian Laughton. The plenary session was kicked off with a documentary film featuring three of the Nomad Live Projects - demonstrating mobile working in various settings including, cemeteries, client homes and building sites. The film was produced by the IDeA to help Project Nomad engage with local authority audiences. The key note speakers at the launch were Chris Haynes, Senior Advisor for the ODPM's e-Government Team and Poonam Sharma, Strategic Advisor to the IDeA. Chris stated "This project is different because it is targeted at front line staff, which is why we think there will be a huge take up in local government. It's not just about technology, it also contributes significantly to the efficiency agenda."
Ian Laughton, speaking at the opening plenary said, "The term 'mobile working' conjures up ideas of technology - phones and other devices that you can use while on the move. Technology is just a means to enabling our people to take services with them - out of the office and into the wider community.
Mobile working requires the combination of people, process and places to transform from desk based working to mobile working, with the aid of technology.
Technology simply oils the wheel - mobile working is about organisational change and how we fundamentally change the process. The crucial thing is who are the people and what matches their needs."

The session brought together ideas discussed throughout the day with speaker, John Grice from the London Borough of Sutton who summarised the potential efficiencies that mobile working could realistically bring to local authorities in the short to long term future. The final closing was presented by Peter Marsden from EntecSi - the Programme Manager for Project Nomad who introduced the Phase 2 plan to develop the project into the first quarter of 2005.
