Why Become a Registered Supplier? Nomad History...

Nomad is tasked with promoting Mobile, Flexible, Home and Wireless working to local authorities across the country, alongside other public sector bodies wishing to gather information on planning and implementation in this area.

Nomad, owned by Cambridgeshire County Council was formally launched in April 2005 following a signaficant development phase (from November 2003 to April 2005). Since that time 'National Projects' initiated by the then Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) were transferred to local authorities in order that they may continue to be sustained.

The ‘safe home’ for Nomad has been provided by Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) and as such all rights to the Nomad products have been transferred to CCC, with the exception of the ‘iTex’ SMS Nomad Live Project, that shall remain with Kirklees Metropolitan Council for further development and roll out.

Nomad’s aim for the future is to drive efficiency and collaborative working within local authorities. Nomad has links with the nine local government Regional Centres of Excellence (RCEs) – www.rcoe.gov.uk in order to promote mobile working efficiencies to a new and wider audience. Nomad has already captured the interest of over 3,500 local authority employees from over 350 local authorities and organisations across Britain through their website registration.

We also encourage collaborative working between local authorities and dedicated mobile working suppliers and providers.  Nomad has secured an extra sum of funding, into 2007/2008, from the DCLG's Modernisation and Efficiency Team, allowing us to develop and move forward, widening our scope to include flexible and home working solutions. Nomad has also obtained additional funds through annual sponsorship from key suppliers. This will allow us to:

  • sustain and develop our key tools such as the website
  • host specific mobile working events for the attendance of both local authority employees and suppliers
  • provide ideal networking opportunities.
The Nomad Forum - the Future...

Nomad activity is now organised by the Nomad Forums - Nomad North, Nomad South, Nomad Scotland.

These Forums are independent groups consisting of local authorities and supplier sponsors. All Nomad Regional Forums are managed by a core group elected annually from the registered local authorities and the sponsoring suppliers to form a Board.

Supplier Subscription Fee

Since Nomad’s launch in February 2005 all suppliers registering their company details on the Nomad website have been able to take advantage of free advertising space, with opportunities to submit mobile working case studies etc.

In January 2006 Project Nomad has introduced an annual subscription fee of £200 as part of the supplier company registration process. The fee will be payable online via credit card or a cheque made payable to Cambridgeshire County Council.

Should your company already have registered its details onto the site, there will be no need to re-key in any information after payment. The administrator of the site will simply re-activate your supplier web page when payment has been received.

The Benefits of Subscription
Your annual subscription payment of £200 per company will allow you the following benefits:
  • Membership to the Nomad Forum – which is the way forward for Nomad and its work.
  • Attendance at forthcoming Nomad hosted events in 2007/08 – an ideal networking opportunity to meet with local authority mobile working implementers and planners.
  • Subscription to the Nomad e-newsletter – helping suppliers focus their energies on issues of concern or interest within local authorities.  (Nomad reserves the right to produce newsletters on a timescale which is befitting the news items themselves - irregularity in issue dates may occur)
  • A full page within the Supplier Directory on the Nomad website – allowing registered suppliers the opportunity to give detail about themselves, and their proven solutions. This page also features dedicated space for the company logo, contact details and specific product details (that link the page, by product type to the ‘Target Technical Architecture’ tool under the Technology section of the website)
  • The opportunity to submit mobile working case studies for publication in the Research section of the website – a particularly well used resource for local authorities looking for solutions to fit their ideas and requirements. Nomad will offer support to suppliers who write and format their case studies within the required template. The template is designed to make sure that any frequent questions from local authorities can be answered.
  • The opportunity to utilise the ‘Nomad Bazaar’ to make exclusive offers to local authorities and to advertise special deals for services and products.
  • Registered suppliers may also reference Nomad appropriately within marketing materials and in some cases use the Nomad logo (Subject to permission, email info@projectnomad.org.uk)
Conditions of Subscription
  • Nomad reserves the right to cancel subscriptions without refund.
  • All monetary fees must be made by credit card or by cheque, made payable to Cambridgeshire County Council. No invoices will be issued. A confirmation of payment letter will be sent on receipt of any payment/s.
